I wrote a Land Acknowledgement
Hi there.
I've been thinking about this for a while and today was the day to post it.
I wrote a Land Acknowledgement after the last number of months of thinking and researching it.
I wanted to be respectful and to give appreciation to the First Nations that I'm working with today. I wrote the Land Acknowledgement in my own way, having thought about the meaning of it, why I am writing it, and making it my own.
Many of the Land Acknowledgements that I found always used the words "we" but I found that be a bit disconnected from the entire idea. So I wrote in the first person to share my own thoughts about this acknowledgement.
It's important that we as Canadians understand and respect the fact that our society is built on colonized land and that we need to be doing more to connect with the Indigenous communities around us.
